To Wii or not to Wii

Me and my hubby have been debating on whether to buy a Wii or not. He thinks its not worth it, and I feel its somewhat not worth it either because I remember having a Nintendo gamecube and I only played liked less than 10 games on it. But its always those titles that are only on that system that makes you want to buy it... like Halo to xbox 360, Mario,Zelda, and Metroid to the Nintendo.

I was scanning Gamestop.com just to see what games were available and I ran across this... the Super Mario All Stars 25th Anniversary Collection (*gasp*) I have to have this. I always wanted a collection of Mario games. I know it isn't every single Mario game but its the ones that remind me of my childhood, and my first experience with video games. I also missed out on alot of Zelda games. The only Zelda game I played was the very first one (*Legend of Zelda theme playing in my head*). Now I never played a Metroid game before but I keep hearing how awesome the game is.

There aren't many other titles besides those that I would like to play except for maybe Donkey Kong, and Final Fantasy crystal chronicles. I did stumble across a website that said there could possibly be a Castlevania collection (*oh joy*) then I would have to get a Wii.

It is kind of a difficult decision because I don't want to pay alot of money for something I might not be using as much as my playstation, but on the other hand....... I would like to experience these titles. And if I do get one I would like this one:

Hmmmm what to do.... what to do.

  1. I had a similar problem. I got a Wii around the same time I got a PS3. I sadly didn't end up buying ANY games for the Wii - just had Wii Sports lol all my money was spent getting PS3 games. I felt I was getting more value out of my money buying PS3 games then Wii games. A friend of mine kept lending me games for the Wii, I played it but not much.

In the end I ended up selling the Wii to some kids lol, it was a great multiplayer console though, fun at a party etc. If you end up getting 1; get a 'better' controller, the one they have can't be comfy for too long. Oh and my boyfriend's brother got that Super Mario All Stars 25th Anniversary Collection I think it even comes with a Mario Music CD!! but he hasn't actually played any of the games on it lol.

Bottom line, if you have a list of 5-10 games you would like to 'thoroughly' play though on the Wii, then maybe get it :) Also getting a pre-owned Wii is also a cheaper option!

  2. What you are describing was me with my Xbox. Games I wanted to play compared to the price of getting something for a handful of games. In the end I think I played 9 games on it over the course of 2 years. Out of those 9, 3 of them were console specific.

In the end I sold my Xbox because I didn't use it anymore and I wasn't interested in playing the sequels of the games that I originally bought the game for in the first place.

But I do admit, there are more games on the Wii that I would like to play that on the Xbox and I think if I had my time back I would have gotten the Wii. Even now there are a handfull of games that I would like to play, most of them are mario games. BUT...I say you could probable get a decent system(second hand) for around $100 bucks.

  3. Yeah the Wii's a good multiplayer console and there's a few suprisngly decent games on there as well.

I say buy one cheap. Definitely buy Metroid Prime: 3, it's one of my all time favourite Wii games and perhaps Monster Hunter Tri, now there's a good Wii game!

  4. so the verdict is........ To buy a used one. that sounds like a good idea, I won't waste too much money. Now the next problem is finding a good deal. Have you ever went to any game store and saw that the used products were only 5 dollars cheaper from the new ones??????

  5. Yeah, that's not called a deal, that's called a rip off. It wasn't always that way, I remember the used one being as much as $20 cheaper. But all these EB/Gamestops are nothing but crooks preying upon the naive uninformed gamer ie our moms and grandmothers;)

  6. Gah, I got a wii when I got my ps3 (jinx @ daisy) and then when I saw the 25th anniversary wii I felt so ripped off man. I want it so bad, but I mean, I already have a wii :l
And you can purchase the old mario games online on your wii :D

  8. Well I bought a PS3 as my own birthday gift and at the same day my aunt gave me a Wii for my birthday. Ever since then I've been playing the PS3 and buying PS3 games only.

To tell you the truth, I only played the Wii just once and played the Wii Sports game only that came with the console and I still haven't played Super Mario that also came with the console. I did had fun playing the Wii Sports. Though sadly my bed room is to small to play the Wii console and have to plug it in the living room, which I'm too lazy to plug and unplug it every time I want to play and stop playing completely. Plus the games aren't that interesting. Only a few games I want to get for the Wii is Metroid Prime 3, Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles, Donkey Kong, and maybe like two other games that are only for the Wii.

I'll probably be seeing my Aunt sometime next week and to tell you the truth, I'm giving the Wii back to her. She can keep it and she can get that Wii Fit that she wants for herself and I'll just play it every time I go to her house. Maybe if I get tried of the PS3 (not likely), I might ask for the Wii back, but till then I stick with my PS3.

Wii has a lot of potential if they only put more games like PS3 and Xbox haves. Would be nice to see a baseball game with MLB players instead of Mario and the gang. I'm actually sick of Mario and for some reason I prefer the old school Mario that I play on my SNES than the new Mario games that we see these days. The old Mario games were the best video games in my opinion.

I'm with Daisy, Blake, and Oliver. If you want a Wii to play few games, get a pre-owned one for cheap or wait for Black Friday to get a new console for cheap. My aunt got me the Red Wii Console which is a special edition for $135 in Best Buy. Of course you have to wake up very early in the morning and stand in line in the cold.

  9. @the girl gamer I prefer the classic mario too. I feel like they should let classic titles stay "classic" and stop trying to make them modern, it just isn't the same.
